With his brother-in-law Richard Hill, John Guerard formed the firm of Hill & Guerard (1736-1746) which was primarily involved with the Indian, slave, and fur trade in Charleston, South Carolina. After Hill's death Guerard continued in these trades, and may also have acted as a factor. Guerard was a plantation owner and a South Carolina Commons House member.
